WHY
HAVE CONTRACTS?
All
Utonagan puppies should be sold with a breeders
contract, and also will have endorsements on their
registration paperwork….
The
reasons for this is that we have a very strict
and well thought out breeding program as this
is a very new breed we have a small gene pool
and are currently insisting on frugal health checks
prior to breeding. All Utonagans are sold as pets
as every litter produced is a test mating at this
time, all puppies should follow breeders instructions
with regards to health checks, hip scores, blood
tests and eye screens before the breeder will
consider lifting these restrictions.
It
is a very selective breeding program at this time
to encourage good pairings of genes for health,
type and most importantly temperament so hence
why all puppies will be sold as pets not breeding
stock. If you are considering breeding from your
animal it is suggested that you discuss this extensively
with your breeder, taking into account the risks
involved and all the health checks that must be
done prior to this endorsement being uplifted.
Different
lines of Utonagan have to have different health
checks due to what has arisen from these matings
in the past, it is common that due to the in-breeding
necessary to create a new breed in the beginning
of the breed for all defective genes to pair up
and come to the fore so that now we are all working
to eradicate the defective genes and to cement
the gene pairings that we have worked over the
years to create.
This
is a very complicated and important part of the
future of the Utonagan as a breed so hence the
endorsements and contracts.
Any
questions regarding these should be put to your
breeder and if you would like any other information
regarding the above please do not hesitate to
